Green Room: Jeremy Saulnier

I really hope Jeremy Saulnier becomes this generation's John Carpenter. He certainly seems to be on track what with his string of highly idiosyncratic horror/thriller films. I haven't seen Blue Ruin (2013), but I've heard incredible things. Murder Party (2007) impressed me with its originality and creativity, but left me ultimately feeling let down by its uneven plotting. Green Room sees him at the top of his game. Nerve-wracking, tense, expertly written, and masterfully performed, it's everything a good thriller should be. If it had come out 20-30 years ago, it might have been a classic. But for whatever reason it's been banished to limited theatrical runs and the film festival circuit. What a shame. It only cost $5 million to make. Imagine the possible box office returns if it had been promoted like a James Wan film.
